Practice policies
Clear information about how sessions, confidentiality, and your data are handled.
Confidentiality
All information shared in sessions is confidential, and if I bump into you outside of sessions, I will not acknowledge you unless you say hello.
While you are attending counselling sessions, I will not share any information about you with other organisations or people, except in the following situations:
Consent – I may share your information with other professionals whom you have requested or agreed I should contact.
Serious harm – I may share your information with the relevant authorities and my clinical supervisor, if I have reason to believe that you are at risk of serious harm, or of harming others.
Clinical Executor – I hold a Professional Clinical Will and my Executor will contact you if I am incapacitated for any reason and I am unable to contact you.
Legal compliance – there are some instances where I am bound by the law and would have to break confidentiality. This includes:
- A judge or coroner requests copies of my notes via a court order.
- You disclose information about a serious crime such as money laundering, terrorism and/or drug trafficking. In this instance, I would need to notify the police.
- You are in danger of hurting yourself or someone else.
- Similarly, if you reveal information about children or vulnerable adults being seriously at risk, I will report that to the relevant authorities.
I will always try to speak to you about this first, unless there are safeguarding issues that prevent this.
As a Counsellor, I work with a Clinical Supervisor who is also bound by confidentiality as outlined by their membership to an ethical body. If I have to break confidentiality due to one of the reasons outlined above, I will speak to my Clinical Supervisor for advice and support.

Social media
I have an Instagram and Facebook page, as well as a website. I will never share client information on social media, and I ask that you do not put anything regarding our sessions on my pages, to protect your confidentiality.
If you interact with my social media content in any way, please be aware that you are allowing others to see your visibility on the platform. I do not send or receive direct messages on social media, so please only contact me via email or phone.
It is not uncommon to want to google people that you meet these days. It is my policy not to google or connect on any social media platforms with my clients before, during, or after therapy, as this ensures I am focused on working with what you bring into the room.
I respectfully request that you treat me the same way, and please understand that I do not accept any social media invitations to connect online, in the same way that I would not engage in a personal relationship with a current or former client.
If you do want to google me and come across any information that you feel causes you any concerns, please bring it to the therapy and we can discuss it there.
